Game Length
All State Tournament games will be played under the following format:
• Three (3) periods.
• 15 minutes per period.
• Standard stop-time rules apply.
Overtime & Tiebreaker Procedures
If a game is tied at the end of regulation, the following overtime structure will be used:
1. First Overtime Period
• 10 minutes
• 5-on-5 (including goalies)
• Sudden-death format (first goal wins)
2. Second Overtime Period
• If still tied after the first overtime
• 10 minutes
• 4-on-4 (including goalies)
• Sudden-death format
3. Shootout
• If the game remains tied after both overtime periods
• A shootout will be used to determine the winner
• Shootout procedures will follow KHSHL and referee-approved guidelines
Additional Notes
• Shootouts will not be used unless both overtime periods are completed without a goal.
• Referee crews will enforce all standard penalty and overtime rules as outlined by KHSHL and governing officiating standards.
• Tournament staff will confirm all ice scheduling and operational details with the host rink prior to the event.
