Elite Prospects

Understanding Elite Prospects

Elite Prospects is an online database that tracks hockey players from all levels—youth, high school, junior leagues, college, and professional. It is widely used by coaches, scouts, and organizations to look up player information, statistics, teams played for, height/weight, and career history.

For high school families, Elite Prospects becomes especially important if a player wants to continue playing after high school, whether that’s in:

  •  Junior hockey (Tier I, Tier II, Tier III)
  •  College hockey (NCAA or ACHA)
  •  Higher-level development programs

A strong, accurate Elite Prospects profile helps a player get noticed, and parents can support the process by:

  • Making sure the player’s teams and seasons are listed correctly
  • Uploading a clear headshot (if allowed by the team)
  • Keeping basic information up to date
  • Sharing stats or achievements with team staff so they can be added
  • Encouraging their player to maintain a positive public presence, since many programs check profiles during evaluations

Elite Prospects does not guarantee a player will be recruited, but it is one of the key tools coaches and scouts use when tracking a player’s development. Helping your student-athlete maintain an accurate profile can support their journey if they are serious about advancing to junior hockey, college hockey, or beyond.

Helpful Hints

  1. Basic profile information: Parents can help by confirming a player’s correct name, birth year, hometown, and position. Proper spelling is important for visibility.
  2. Team history added through coaches: Coaches or team managers are typically the ones who submit official team information, including rosters and season records. Parents should communicate with the coach if they notice missing or incorrect team details.
  3. Stats must be verified: Elite Prospects only posts statistics that are submitted and verified by coaches, leagues, or trusted team staff. Parents can share stats with the coach, but only the coach or designated team representative should request updates.
  4. Photos added with coach approval: If your team allows it, a clean headshot or jersey photo can be added. Coaches often coordinate or approve which photos represent the team on EP.
  5. Coaches confirm accuracy of updates: Any changes—new teams, tournaments, or achievements—are usually confirmed by the coach before Elite Prospects will post them. This helps ensure that all information is correct and official.
  6. Keep communication simple and respectful: If something on your player’s page needs corrected, reach out to the coach or team manager first. They handle official submissions so that everything stays consistent and accurate.
  7. EP is a tool—not a requirement: While helpful for junior and college scouts, Elite Prospects does not determine success. Work ethic, attitude, performance, and coachability matter most.
